Why should we, the apolitical lot in the country, bother ourselves with whatever that is happening?

Logic agrees that the sensible, industrious and productive thing to do in times of nationwide protests is to cover our eyes.

We have every right to do so. If the constitution gives the people protesting the Freedom of Expression, it also gives us the right to not express and engage ourselves with it at all. And to hell with people who’d blame us for being apolitical. We have enough of our own stuff going on. To top that with the pressure of being an aware and well-informed citizen is having even more expectation than what are our parents probably have from us.

Simply put, the misery of our times right now is an overwhelming gateway. And a lot us are afraid that once opened, it’ll spiral us down this rabbit hole of anger and gloom where there’s no coming back from.

We’ve chosen the things that matter in our life- an education of something we truly believe in, a job that brings us so much joy, a family, a loved one, winter sunshine, a warm cup of coffee under a velvety blanket. And all of these sound really nice, and really comforting, and we’ve worked really hard for it, and only idiots would give up on any of it.

Which is exactly what these people are. Idiots.

These protesters are a bunch of idiots. We’ve seen the likes of them, haven’t we? Those social outcasts and those weirdos, maddened by their belief in a secular country. In an ideal democracy. In the power of the constitution. In the will of the people. Bar religion. Bar caste. Bar age. Bar gender.

So naive and absurd and dumb. What a waste of young blood.

And that too in January, of all months. Everybody knows winters are the most terrible time for a revolution. The idiots protesting in single degree temperatures, day in, day out. Getting thrashed for it for god’s sake. Baton strike stings in the cold sound like the worst. Why would these ‘libtards‘, these ‘Urban Naxals’, these ‘anti-national elements’ still keep at it?

Beyond ridiculous and beyond our understanding.

Which is why, at this point, all that can be done by us, the ‘sensible’ lot, is we can probably save these idiots.

If we don’t keep questioning the police why they’d let ABVP goons vandalise campuses, then these idiots will keep getting beaten up by them.

If we don’t keep questioning the media why they wouldn’t cover such attacks, then these idiots will keep getting attacked to gather more attention.

And if we don’t question the Prime — chotu chaiwala- Minister of the country why, for the love of God, why would he still subject innocent students through torturous overnight vigils in the cold, instead of simply repealing a stupid Act, then I swear these idiots will end up killing themselves.

So the onus, is for the love of bad puns, on us. The smart, apolitical lot. We could, either, peek through the ‘sensible hands’ that are covering our faces right now, look at what is happening around us and question it. Or we could let these dumb ‘Rang De Basanti’ inspired buffoons freeze themselves to death.

No pressure.
